Wounded Warrior Project

Posted on: November 30, 2011

Nearly every American knows someone affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In May, 2010, Merit Financial created the “Shipping Cost Donation Program” in an effort to raise awareness of the cause of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

Through the program, Merit offers free shipping to clients who make donations to the WWP. Through January 2012, total donations totaled $170,624.

The purpose of the WWP is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

The challenges are real as these statistics from the WWP illustrate:

Casualties: 6,383
Wounded: 47,638
Transitional Care Packs: 33,231
Backpacks: 14,943
Alumni registered with WWP: 14,835
*Through February, 2012
